We’re going to start, as we like to do, with the cheapest product on our list. Then we’ll work up to the priciest and see how they compare. After all, who wants to pay more for something of the same or even lesser quality?

So the first toolbox liner we have is from B&C Goods. They call this The Toughest Toolbox Liner, but is it just a name, or can they back it up? Well, at about $1.40 per linear foot, it’s good value for one of the best cheap tool box drawer liners available.

Let’s get rolling…

This 24-foot long roll is going to give you lining for a whole of drawers. It’s made from 3/32-inch thick (3mm) tough, non-slip black foam rubber. This material offers natural protection from wear and tear.

We tried to scratch it lightly, then heavily with a sharp screwdriver to simulate what could happen in your tool chest. It held up pretty well. This liner is sturdy and lays flat right off the roll, so you won’t have to worry about it buckling or deforming. Just slap it down and cut the size you need off the roll.

There’s a sort of grid-like pattern on the surface, which helps it to grip your drawers and stay put. These gridlines can also help you to cut so long as they’re straight. The lines weren’t always at 90 degrees along our whole 24-foot roll.

More great value…

This liner is waterproof and spillproof. However, we found that some tools did stick to it a bit, especially those with vinyl handles. We suspect that in hotter conditions, this sticking might get even worse. So we wouldn’t recommend it out in the sun, like in your truck’s toolbox.

At the same time, it’s cheap, durable, and thick enough to protect your tools. And it’s one of the best affordable waterproof tool box drawer liners out there. That’s a good start.

2 Precision Defined Heavy Duty Tool Box Liner – Best Polyurethane Tool Box Drawer Liner

Precision Defined is a great name, isn’t it? Makes us think of perfect products. Well, is this Heavy Duty Tool Box Liner one of those?

Very similar…

Next in our Best Liners for Tool Box review, this liner is just a couple of bucks more for the roll than the B&C we just saw. It’s the same size, both in width, length, and thickness. Yep, that’s 3/32 inches (3mm) thick. In this case, it’s made from tough, durable, black polyurethane foam. Well, wouldn’t you know it, this is the same thing as foam rubber, just with a different name.

The material is very similar to the B&W liner in that it’s soft but offers some resistance. It grips well and keeps your tools in place, and doesn’t slide around inside your drawers. Plus, it lays flat right off the roll and is easy to cut with a box cutter, razor, or even just sharp scissors. It seems to be at least somewhat oil resistant and is waterproof.

However, precise it’s not…

While the manufacturer claims the textured grid lines help you cut straight, these aren’t very useful unless you’re cutting an angle. The lines on the roll we got were on a 20-degree bias to the length and width of the roll. What’s more, the roll we got wasn’t a full 18 inches in width. It was almost half an inch shy.

Come on, guys! With a name like Precision Defined, we’re sure you should be able to do better.

3 Olsatools Tool Box Liner – Best PVC Foam Tool Box Drawer Liner

In case you think you’re seeing the same product all over again, look closer. Yes, Olsatools is giving us an 18-inch wide, 24-foot long roll of foamy liner for almost the same price as Precision Defined’s product.

But in this case, the liner is a little bit thicker at 1/8″ (3.2mm). It’s also a textured, perforated sheet rather than a solid one. Instead of PU or foam rubber, this liner is made from PVC foam. As a result, it’s one of the best lightweight tool box drawer liners available.

What’s PVC foam?

If you’ve ever slept on a camp roll, you’re probably familiar with PVC foam. We fund this type of liner to be less scratch-resistant. Because it’s perforated, sharp tools or things with hooks can get caught on the holes and tear them. And because of those holes, this liner isn’t going to protect your tool chest drawers from spills of water, oil, or chemicals.

On the other hand…

The extra thickness and the holes give it a good softness and a good grip on both your drawer and your tools. It features a slightly tacky surface that helps to keep your tools in place well. If you don’t work with fluids and don’t have to worry about spills or sharp tools, this might be a good option.

4 Reizen Tech Max-Tough Tool Box Liner – Best Value for the Money Tool Box Drawer Liner

Now, we know you’re not going to get this liner mixed up with any of the others in this review. Reizen Tech has done something very different with their Max-Tough Tool Box Liner. And it’s obvious what that is.

While the competition has stuck to the classic black or grey serious colors for their toolbox liners, these guys have gone out on a limb. They’ve made their foam rubber liner in a bright, almost pinkish red or bright blue, depending on your preference.

Is this a major selling point?

Well, surprisingly, it might be. Not everyone uses shiny chromed tools that stand out just fine against a black background. And not everyone can see perfectly. Some handy folks out there will like the brightness this liner gives because it provides a great contrast to your tools. Unless your tools are all pink, that is?

Again, this is a 3/32-inch (3mm) thick foam rubber with a waffled texture to help it grip. And grip it does. We think this is one of the best grip tool box drawer liners you can buy. The grip might be a bit too good. We found that it stuck to some tools, especially in hot conditions. Again, you wouldn’t want that in a truck tool kit or anywhere else with high heat.

Everything in its place…

It lies flat out of the box, like the other brands. We found that heavy tools will make a slight imprint which can be a good thing when you want to re-organize and put everything back in its place.

5 Xcel Rubber Heavy Duty Tool Box Drawer Liner – Best Thick and Durable Tool Box Drawer Liner

Wait, did you just read that right? Sure did. We’ve suddenly moved from those long bulk rolls of liner to a product that’s sold in a much smaller size. And remember how we said we’d move from cheapest to most expensive in this review? Well, we are.

While 6 feet of Xcel Rubber’s Heavy Duty Tool Box Drawer Liner costs less than all the products we’ve seen so far, that’s the roll cost. By the linear foot, this liner costs way more than double what the other liners do.

Why is that?

This is a top-of-the-line product that’s thicker and more durable than the others. It’s ¼” (6.35mm) thick versus the 3/32” other products. Yes, that’s more than double the thickness.

This liner is made from black closed-cell neoprene foam. It’s one of the most durable toolbox drawer liners around. Furthermore, it’s also one of the best scratch resistant tool box drawer liners on the market. And more or less waterproof.

Quality all around…

The manufacturer throws some numbers at us. This foam has a density of 7-9 PCF and a tensile strength of 50 PSI. Sounds good, but no one else gave us their stats to compare with.

We do know that it’s American-made. And produced from post-consumer materials for a more environmentally friendly product. It lies flat in tool kit drawers. The grip for tools is solid, and it’s heavy enough not to move around at all.

Give it an airing…

One issue about this liner is that it has a strong chemical smell from the factory. You might want to air it out for a night before cutting it to size and installing it in your toolbox.

They’ve been made of similar materials with similar dimensions and priced around the same ballpark, except for the last one. Well, Lodesol has come up with a completely different sort of toolbox drawer liner to show you.

What’s it all about?

Rather than relying on a textured foam mat and gravity to keep your tools in place, this new product uses magnets. Yep, magnets. As you will see, it’s one of the most versatile tool box drawer liners currently on sale.

This mat is made from 1/3-inch thick vinyl with magnets embedded in it. They’re laid out with six rows of 15 larger magnets and five rows of 14 smaller magnets between them. This covers the whole mat with magnetic attraction to grip onto both your toolbox drawers and your tools.

Well, of course, they have to be made from steel…

Imagine you have a huge selection of hex drivers, drill bits, or wrenches. Everything will go and stay exactly where you want it because of these magnets.
