SS Vision’s ultra-slim light bars differ slightly from the other best off road lights we have looked at so far. This pack of two 7-inch light bars only contains six LEDs each.

Usability…

7 Autofeel Flood Spot Beam Combo – Best Budget Off Road Lights

Last up in this roundup is another off-road light from AutoFeel. This AutoFeel product is also the smallest light bar in this review. Thankfully, you get two of them. Each one measures 6.15-inches long, and together they put out 5,500 lumens of cool white 6,500K light according to AutoFeel.

This is another light bar that has both spot and floodlight LEDs. AutoFeel was able to squeeze 24 individual LEDs into each light bar, which is impressive given how small they are. On the bottom of each light bar, there is a small mounting bracket. You will find a few nuts and bolts for each light bar included in the box to secure them in place.

Take Note…

When you are mounting the light bars, take care when tightening the bolts. They aren’t the most durable, and we actually had one snap-off.

If at all possible, head to your local hardware shop and pick up some better-quality bolts. Even though these are some of the best cheap off road lights, you don’t want them flying off your truck or SUV when you go off-roading.

Throughout this review, you will have noticed that not all off-road lights are the same. The following buying guide will go through the ins and outs of the different lights available and tell you what to look out for.

LED Pods, Light Bars, and Lumens

In this roundup, you will have noticed two different types of lights. You will have seen both LED pods and light bars. LED pods are smaller than light bars, allowing you to mount them in a vast majority of places. On the other hand, LED light bars are longer and take up more room.

Pods are typically less bright than light bars are since they are smaller, and you can only fit so many LEDs in one space. That doesn’t mean LED light pods aren’t up to the task of lighting up the path ahead of you, though.

The brightness of your off-road lights is measured in lumens. To put it simply, the more lumens a light has, the brighter it will be.

How many lumens?

You will have noticed that some off-road lights can output 8,000 lumens, where some can output 30,000. The amount of light you need depends on your preference.

We lean more to the idea that your lights can never be too bright when off-roading. Another thing that will differ from one light to another is the color of the LED.

Colors

The color of the LEDs is measured in Kelvin, just like the lights in your house. If your off-road lights LEDs have a color temperature of 6,000K, they will produce a daylight white type of light.

The higher Kelvin you go, your lights get more of a blue hue and are called cool white at 6,500K. We find that 6,500K cool white colored off-road lights are better at night, but that’s just our opinion.

Mounting

Almost every off-road light we have come across comes with some sort of mounting hardware. The mounting hardware included usually consists of a few brackets, screws, and washers.

The most common places to mount your off-road lights are under the vehicle’s grill, on the cowl, or even on the roof. This will vary depending on your vehicle. And unless the vehicle you are mounting the lights to already has mounting holes drilled, you will need to prepare them yourself.

If you are mounting the lights to metal, they should stay secured in any position. However, if you are mounting the lights to a plastic surface, you should bolt them to the vehicle’s metal frame for them to be adequately secured.

Wiring

Now that you know where you want to mount your off-road lights, you will need to wire them to your battery. To do so, you have two options; buy a prefabricated wiring harness, or build one yourself.

A pre-built wiring harness is the easiest way to go but can be costly. They will come with a switch, relay, and quick connections making installation a breeze. To build one yourself, you will want to get some 16-gauge wire in two different colors. One wire will be for power and the other for ground.

Fuses and switches

Next, you will want to get an inline fuse holder and fuse. These will need to be mounted within 12-inches of your battery. To turn the off-road lights on and off, you will also need some switches. Both the fuse and switch you install need to be rated to withstand the wattage of the lights, or they may fail frequently.

If you have more than one light, you may want to get multiple switches. Some off-road lights come with different lighting modes that may require rocking-type switches as well. These switches will need to be mounted in an easy-to-reach place like your vehicle’s dashboard. This will also require you to drill a few more holes as well.
