1 BikeMaster TLPTC-6 Tire Change Stand with Bead Breaker – Best Portable Motorcycle Tire Changer

BikeMaster is a well-known and respected name in the motorcycle community. They make solid products at a fair price. The BikeMaster TLPTC-6 Tire Change Stand offers a non-nonsense tire change stand for an affordable price.

Lightweight, compact, and adjustable…

This is a relatively light tire changer weighing just 17.8lbs. It’s also compact, which makes it ideal for transporting. If you need a tire changer to take to events, then this is a very good option.

It has an adjustable bead-breaker on the end of a long handle to create good leverage. This makes bead-breaking less of a physical job. It can be used on wheels between 16” to 21” and is effective even on stubborn wheel beads.

Not ideal for larger tires…

This will work well on most bike wheels. Although, it’s not universally compatible with all. For instance, it may not be suitable with older style and vintage axle holes. These may be too small to accommodate the shaft. Furthermore, larger tires on big touring-style bikes may also be too large.

One last point is that the tire changer can be a little difficult to use when flat and unsecured to the ground. Either raising the height onto a low bench or bolting it to the ground makes it easier to operate.

BikeMaster TLPTC-6 Tire Change Stand with Bead Breaker

Our rating:3.9 out of 5 stars (3.9 / 5)

Pros

  • Easy to transport.
  • Adjustable bead-breaker.
  • Good leverage from the long handle.
  • Suitable for tires between 16” to 21”.

Cons

  • May not be suitable for use with older wheels.
  • Sits on the floor.

2 Motorsport Products Portable Tire Changer with Bead Breaker 70-3002 – Best Bead Breaking Motorcycle Tire Changer

On the face of it, there’s not much to choose between this and the BikeMaster we just reviewed. However, upon closer inspection, we think that the Motorsport Products Portable Tire Changer comes out tops for strength and build quality.

Durable and strong welds…

They’re both made from steel, but the Motorsport tire changer has better re-enforcement on the handles. The welding on the supporting struts is also an improvement over the BikeMaster that simply uses a bolt-on design.

What’s more, the welded design also means you have to spend less time putting it together once it lands at your door.

Overall, the Motorsport tire changer looks and feels both stronger and more refined. The fact that it weighs 21.5lbs, compared to the BikeMaster at 17.9lbs, also tells you that this is a more substantial product. Despite the extra weight, it’s still very portable.

No hassle breaking the bead…

The Motorsport Products Portable Tire Changer can be used on tires over 16”. It’s effective at breaking the bead and doesn’t require an overly excessive force to work. The handle provides plenty of leverage.

One criticism is that once the bead is broken and your working on your tire, there’s no way to keep the lever out of the way. It flops around, and if you’re not careful, it could easily catch you on the head.

Expensive, but worth it…

Overall, this is a good option if you regularly need to change tires. However, it’s undoubtedly more expensive than a lot of similarly styled tire changers. Nevertheless, we think it does enough to warrant the increased price tag.

Motorsport Products Portable Tire Changer with Bead Breaker 70-3002

Our rating:4.3 out of 5 stars (4.3 / 5)

Pros

  • Strong build quality.
  • Easy to transport for track days.
  • Wide base.
  • Effective bead breaker.
  • Does not scratch the wheels.

Cons

  • The Bead breaker handle swings lose when not in use.
  • May not be compatible with some vintage wheels.

3 Motion Pro 08-0536 BeadPro Forged Steel Tire Bead Breaker and Lever Tool Set – Most Durable Motorcycle Tire Changer

These are a set of heavy-duty multi-use tire set. They are perfect for use on all motorcycle tires, and you won’t be limited by the size or type of tire you need to change. They’ll work just fine for changing the tires on your Vespa or your Harley.

Strong and durable construction…

The Motion Pro 08-0536 lever tool set is made from chrome vanadium forged steel with a black oxidized finish. There’s no doubt that these are strong enough to get the job done time and time again. They are durable and a set of tools that will likely be around for a long time.

Lots of leverage…

They have long 16” handles with integrated tire spoons on the ends. They’re long enough to give you plenty of leverage to make taking off and installing tires a reasonably straightforward process. Another reason why it’s one of the Best Motorcycle Tire Changers.

The handles have been ergonomically designed with crossguard to prevent your hands from inadvertently riding forward. It’s a neat solution and one that’s particularly welcome when applying high amounts of force.

Barely break a sweat…

They’re effective at breaking the beads on all but the stiffest of tires. On larger tires, you will need to apply a lot more force, but they still work, with that bit of extra muscle, on even larger motorcycle tires.

When using the Motion Pro 08-0536 lever toolset, it’s important to use good technique, and of course, lube is undoubtedly your friend. This will make the job significantly easier regardless of the size of your wheels and tires.

Protect your rims…

It’s also probably a good idea to consider a rim protector, especially if you have expensive custom rims.

Motion Pro 08-0536 BeadPro Forged Steel Tire Bead Breaker and Lever Tool Set

Our rating:4.6 out of 5 stars (4.6 / 5)

Pros

  • Heavy-duty forged steel construction.
  • Ergonomically integrated crossguard.
  • Integrated tire spoons.
  • 16” handle.

Cons

  • Requires a lot of force on heavier tires.
  • A rim shield may be required to protect the rims.

4 Dr.Roc Tire Spoon Lever Dirt Bike Lawn Mower Motorcycle Tire Changing Tools – Best Motorcycle Tire Changer for Small Tires

The Dr.Roc Tire Spoon Lever set is aimed for use with smaller tires. They can be used on a small motorcycle, scooter, ATV, or lawnmower tires. They are not suitable for use on larger bike tires or tires with particularly stiff sidewalls.

All grip, no slip…

The tire irons are made from high quality forged steel. They are 11” long and feature easy-grip ergonomic handles. The handle length gives them sufficient leverage for working on smaller tires only. Regardless, the handles help you to maintain a solid grip, with no fears of slipping, at all times.

The design and smooth chromed edges ensure that when working on tires with tubes, they will not be damaged. They are easy to slip under the tires without fear of nipping your inner-tubes. Something that can happen all too easily and lead to an unwanted additional expense.

The levers are strong enough, on small tires, to break the beads on all but the stiffest of sidewalls.

Accessories included…

The Dr.Roc Tire Spoon Lever set comes with a few accessories included in the price. Although this set of tire irons is already inexpensive, we would have preferred to have got an extra couple of bucks off the price, rather than have a few non-essential items thrown in.

So, what exactly do you get?

Well, you get a pair of rim protectors, which are probably the most useful of the giveaways. Nonetheless, they are poor quality and unlikely to last for very long. The valve cores are also low-quality and a waste of time. The tire valve caps are undoubtedly a complete waste of time.

Why not just throw in some random pieces of useless plastic as well, guys? You know, just for a laugh!

For some reason, a case. Are we going to pop the tire irons in the case and then into our briefcase for our commute to the office? The fact is, the accessories are a load of junk. However, this doesn’t detract from what is a perfectly effective, affordable, and good quality set of tire irons for smaller tires.

Dr.Roc Tire Spoon Lever Dirt Bike Lawn Mower Motorcycle Tire Changing Tools

Our rating:4.5 out of 5 stars (4.5 / 5)

Pros

  • Strong, high-quality, forged steel.
  • Sufficient leverage for smaller tires.
  • Easy-grip handles.
  • Lifetime warranty.
  • Affordable.

Cons

  • Not suitable for use on larger tires.
  • Can be difficult to break the bead on some tires.
  • Inclusion of junk accessories.

5 Tire Spoon Lever Iron Tool Motorcycle Bike Tire Change Changer Kit w/Case Set of Three – Best Motorcycle Tire Changer for Small Wheels

Next, in our reviews of the Best Motorcycle Tire Changers, we have a set of inexpensive tire irons made by a company called Wanheyao. It’s not much of a stretch to assume that these are made in China. But then again, isn’t just about everything these days?

They are an unbranded set of tire levers that look almost identical to the Dr. Roc tire levers we’ve just reviewed. Is it possible that they came from the same factory? Well, we certainly think so.

Not suited for larger tires…

The levers measure 11” long, which means they have insufficient leverage to deal with larger tires. They are equipped for use with the kinds of tires fitted on scooters and small-sized motorcycles or dirt bikes.

If you have a large sports or touring bike, these are not going to be of much use.

Solid steel construction…

They are made from heavy-duty hardened steel, and the handles feature an easy-grip design. The tire irons are finished in chrome, which makes them easy to slide inside the tire.

This is perfect for getting inside the tire while minimizing the chance of causing damage to your inner-tubes. That’s if the tire has one, of course.

Stock up on lube…

Breaking the bead can be tricky but should be possible on the vast majority of tires. We’re sure you’ll agree, as with all tires, the bigger the tire then, the more difficult this job can be. Plenty of lube will help with this throughout the entire process.

Thankfully, the Wanheyao tire levers don’t include a load of useless accessories as part of the deal. They give us a set of good quality tire irons at an affordable price. This is exactly what we want.

Tire Spoon Lever Iron Tool Motorcycle Bike Tire Change Changer Kit w/Case Set of Three

Our rating:4.7 out of 5 stars (4.7 / 5)

Pros

  • Made from heavy-duty hardened steel.
  • Good grip on the handles.
  • Ideal for smaller tires with inner- tubes.
  • Inexpensive.

Cons

  • Not suitable for large tires.
  • Difficulty in breaking the bead on larger tires.

6 No-Mar AC-Y-03905111 Yellow Thing Tire Tool – Most Versatile Motorcycle Tire Changer

The name ‘Yellow Thing Tire Tool’ sums it up very nicely. It looks like some kind of hand from a cartoon. However, we can assure you that it’s not; this is something that’s very much real!

An extra hand?

The Yellow Thing Tire Tool does look like a hand. This is kind of fitting since it effectively acts as a third hand. It’s used as a tool to prevent tire creep when you’re taking off or refitting a tire. Without it, tire creep can make the job a whole lot harder.

It’s made with a metal core and has a super rubberized outer coating. The yellow outer coating ensures that it doesn’t cause damage to your rims. The core construction is durable, though the rubberized outer is liable to wear in time.

Adds convenience…

It works by placing the hoof of the hand over the rim. This can be easily done with just one hand, which makes the operation a lot quicker and less awkward. Once the Yellow Thing is in place, it holds the bead tightly in place.

With the Yellow Thing in position, it frees up both of your hands to work with the tire irons. This means you can concentrate on working on the tire to either get it on or off.

Quirky but effective…

There’s no doubt that this is rather a quirky looking piece of kit. But there’s also no doubt that it’s highly useful and effective. It’s a great addition to your toolbox regardless of the size of the motorcycle tires you’re working on.

No-Mar AC-Y-03905111 Yellow Thing Tire Tool

Our rating:4.6 out of 5 stars (4.6 / 5)

Pros

  • Durable steel core.
  • Does not damage rims.
  • Suitable for all sizes of motorcycle tires.
  • Can be positioned one-handed.

Cons

  • Rubberized outer will wear over time.

7 Car Truck ATV Motorcycle Bike Tire Changer 4″-16.5″ – Strongest Motorcycle Tire Changer

This is the largest and strongest tire changer on our list. It makes light work of changing all motorcycle tires up to 16.5” in diameter. It can also be used on a car, ATV, or any tires that fall in the range.

Works on all types of tires…

It’s a floor-standing machine made from a durable iron frame. This is painted with high-quality anti-corrosive paint. The tools are constructed from high-quality, hardened steel.

Additionally, it has two center posts as well as four different shaft sizes. This means that unlike the BikeMaster and Motorsport tire changers, it can be used on all types of wheels, including vintage ones.

Superb stability…

The handle and the adjustable sliding jaw clamps help to provide lots of stability and leverage. This makes working on your tires appreciably easier and is particularly useful when you’re trying to break the bead.

At its price-point, this is one of the best in its class. It makes light work of even the most difficult tires. With plenty of lube thrown into the equation, no tire is likely to become an obstacle to either remove or fit.

Assembly required…

Unfortunately, this tire changer does not come pre-assembled, and it does take a while to put together. More positively, it comes with comprehensive instructions that are relatively easy to follow.

The instructions also cover how to use it, once assembled, since not everyone will have used something similar.

Car Truck ATV Motorcycle Bike Tire Changer

Our rating:3.6 out of 5 stars (3.6 / 5)

Pros

  • Breaks even difficult beads.
  • Stable base.
  • Good leverage.
  • Suitable for all motorcycle tires up to 16.5.”

  • Takes up a lot of space.

Best Motorcycle Tire Changers Buying Guide

Best Motorcycle Tire Changers Review

Bead Breaking Strength…

If you have a larger motorcycle with wide tires and larger diameters, then you will most likely need plenty of bead breaking strength.

In these circumstances, we’d first recommend the…

Car Truck ATV Motorcycle Bike Tire Changer

This has long machine levers and easily the greatest ability to excerpt the most force on the sidewalls to break the bead.

For smaller bikes or scooters, you may well only need a set of tire irons such as the…

Roc set

If you need more leverage, then you should look again at the Pro Motion tire levers.

Lube, lube, and more lube…

In any event, the process of breaking the bead and then refitting a new tire can be a struggle. That’s why you should always have plenty of lube on hand. In all circumstances, we’d recommend a liberal application.

Stability…

Having a stable platform makes applying force to the tire easier. In turn, this makes removing and refitting your tire an altogether less strenuous process. The…

Car Truck ATV Motorcycle Bike Tire Changer

…has the most stable platform. However, if either the BikeMaster or Motorsport tire changers and bead breaker are secured to the floor, you’ll get a similar level of a stable working platform.

If you rely on using tire irons alone, it will be significantly more difficult to get a sound base. That’s why you’re best leaving them to use on smaller motorcycle tires.

Tire Size Compatibility…

Top Best Motorcycle Tire Changers

Tire irons have no limit on the size of wheels or the size or axel holes you can work on. And they can be great for working on smaller tires. However, the amount of physical force you’ll need to use on large tires will likely restrict you to a smaller one.

For wheels between 4” to 16.5,” the…

Car Truck ATV Motorcycle Bike Tire Changer

…is the obvious choice. If you need to go larger, the BikeMaster or Motorsport tire changers are both capable of changing between tires between 16” and 21”.

Rim Protection…

You have to be careful not to damage your rims when changing your tires. The three mechanical tire changers all score well in this respect. Under normal circumstances, there will be little chance of causing damage to your wheel rims.

If you choose to just use tire irons, you may well need to take extra precautions, even more so if you have expensive custom rims. In this instance, a set of rim protectors are a good idea.

Although the Dr. Roc Tire Spoon Levers include some cheap rim protectors, we’d recommend you get yourself a decent set. They’re not very expensive and could potentially save you a lot of money.

Portability…

All the motorcycle tire changers are portable except for the Car Truck ATV Motorcycle Bike Tire Changer. This is a hefty 70lbs and rather bulky. It’s unlikely to fit in the trunk of a standard-sized sedan.

Fortunately, as well as the tire irons, the two other mechanical tire changers are both relatively light. Likewise, they can easily be put in the trunk of just about any sedan or SUV.
