Top 5 Best Motorcycle Riding Suits On The Market In 2021 Reviews
1
Firstgear Thermosuit Motorcycle Riding Cold Weather Suit – Best Budget Winter Motorcycle Riding Suit
Easy rider
Let’s kick things off with this Firstgear bike suit. With a massive 120g of padding, it’s the perfect choice for chilly conditions. Planning a road trip in the Alaskan winter? This could be the best riding suit for motorcycle you can buy.
It’s great on rainy days, too. The outer material is completely waterproof. It’ll repel water even in a storm, keeping the rider warm and dry.
What is it made from?
210 denier Hypertex is the fabric used, and it’s seriously tough stuff. Not only does it offer a line of defense against the rain, but it also stands up to wind well too. And although it’s sturdy, it still has a decent amount of flexibility. That Hypertex moves with the rider, not against them. It won’t restrict movement, offering a free, comfortable experience.
Plus, for even more comfort, the ankles are elasticated. They can stretch out over boots or fit snugly around the joint. They’ve got storm flaps, too, for even more protection against the elements. Like the ankles, the waist can expand and contract as well, and the entire section is adjustable. There’ll be no issues here if you put on a couple of pounds over Christmas!
That sounds awesome! But what’s the catch?
Well, it’s fantastic in cold weather but isn’t really suitable when it’s hot because there’s absolutely no ventilation. We’d need to open the front zip while riding to get any kind of airflow through.
And it wouldn’t do much to prevent broken bones. There are no arm or knee pads here and no back brace. You’ll need to buy those separately.
But otherwise, this is a fantastic cold weather suit! And at an extremely reasonable price.
Pros
- Incredibly warm.
- Adjustable.
- Sturdy construction.
Cons
- Can overheat.
- No hard pads.

Alpinestars Men’s Ride Tech Summer 1 Piece Motorcycle Riding Undersuit – Best Motorcycle Riding Undersuit
Ride the lightning
Up next is this Alpinestars race suit. This brand is iconic in the world of Motorsport. For more than 30 years, they’ve been at the forefront of motorcycle gear manufacture.
Can this suit live up to their reputation?
This is one for the summer months. Located in various positions, open mesh panels allow a constant flow through of air. They keep us comfortable and cool, even when riding in the Arizona sun.
As it’s made from spandex, it’s moisture-wicking, too. The fibers in the material work to direct sweat away from the skin. No one wants to arrive at their destination as a hot, sweaty mess! This fabric ensures we stay dry throughout the ride.
Spandex? Isn’t that what gymnasts wear?
Yes, but don’t worry! It does a great job as a motorcycle suit as well. As it’s quite a tight material, it offers support to the muscles, helping to reducing pain or fatigue. And that’s not the only support it provides. The sleeves are pre-curved around the elbow. Not only does this make it a better fit, but it helps to hold the rider’s arms in the correct position.
Spandex is also incredibly flexible. Thanks to its elastic properties, it allows us to move with ease, without any restrictions. And it also means it can grow with the body if we happen to put on a bit of extra weight!
Does it have any hard protection?
No, it doesn’t. This is an undersuit and needs to be worn with padding over the top. It might prevent abrasions in a crash, but it won’t stop any bones from breaking.
So, there are positives and negatives. But we think there are far more positives! And best of all, it doesn’t break the bank.
Pros
- Trusted brand.
- Flexible, supportive construction.
- Well-ventilated.
Cons
- No hard protection.

RaceQuip Racing Driver Fire Suit One Piece Single Layer SFI 3.2A/ 1 – Most Durable Motorcycle Riding Suit
Get your motor running
Our next option is this one-piece motorcycle coveralls. They come in a choice of three colors, so you can pick the one that matches the bike. Dedicated followers of fashion; this could be the best motorcycle riding suit for you.
What material is it constructed from?
This time we find Pyrovatex, an FRC material. “But what does that mean?” we hear you cry! It’s OK; it’s not as complicated as it sounds.
FRC stands for fire-resistant clothing, And that’s exactly what we have here. Pyrovatex has amazing flame-resistant qualities.
Built for the road…
It begins with natural cotton fibers, which are then combined with a chemical compound. This ensures that the fabric offers maximum levels of protection when faced with a fire. It also makes sure that it retains this protection over time, even with repeated washing.
That compound gives it strength, too. This is a heavy-duty piece of kit! It should stand up well to scratches and scrapes in the event of a crash.
That sounds like it might be uncomfortable. Is it?
Absolutely not. It might be tough, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t gentle too. Yes, it’s incredibly sturdy, but it’s also quite gentle against the skin.
And that’s not all…
Thanks to its moisture-wicking capabilities, it keeps the rider dry. It isn’t too hot, either. We’ll stay cool and calm on the race track in this surprisingly impressive suit.
OK, it is a bit basic. There’s no extra muscle support or hard protection here. And we’re not convinced that we’d stay dry in really heavy rain. But that’s reflected in the price. This suit is seriously easy on the pocketbook! It’s an eye-catching, effective piece of gear for a great price.
Pros
- Excellent resistance to fire.
- Durable.
- Inexpensive.
Cons
- No protection against impact.

Alpinestars Men’s Missile Leather Motorcycle Riding Suit Tech-Air Compatible – Best Premium Motorcycle Riding Suit
Riders on the storm
Now for the second Alpinestars option in our hunt for the best motorbike riding suit. And let’s just say that this is not a budget friendly choice! Bargain hunters; you might want to look elsewhere!
Is the worth the high price tag?
Constructed from full-grain leather, this is the real deal. That material is some of the toughest stuff around. There’s little chance of rips or tears, so skin will be well-protected even at high speeds.
It offers so much more protection, too. Reinforced panels on the legs, elbows, and shoulders take care of those parts of the body that are most likely to be injured. This gives the rider extra peace of mind and increased confidence when cornering at speed.
What’s the best part?
There’s space for airbags! Alpinestars has developed their own unique airbag system. It slips neatly inside the suit for first-rate cushioning upon impact.
Of course, that system is sold separately. Buying it pushed the price up even more. It would be nice if it were already included since we’ve shelled out so much money, to begin with.
Does it fit well?
It clings very tightly to the body. This is absolutely perfect for race days. It decreases wind resistance and looks the part too.
And though leather can sometimes be unyielding, that’s not the case here. We get total freedom of movement thanks to reinforced gussets.
What did we ask earlier? Is it worth the high price tag?
Yes, it is. However, it’s not for everyone! While it’s ideal for experienced racers, it’s a bit over the top for lower levels.
Pros
- Incredible construction.
- Hard joint protection.
- Airbag compatibility.
Cons
- Airbag sold separately.
- Eye-wateringly expensive!

Joe Rocket 1370-4005 Survivor Men’s Waterproof 1-Piece Motorcycle Riding Suit – Best Value for the Money Motorcycle Riding Suit
Pocket rocket
Finally, we come to this Joe Rocket survivor suit. When it comes to first-class motorcycle gear, Joe Rocket is one of the first names on everybody’s lips. Well-known and widely respected, they’re famous for producing awesome protective clothing at great prices.
Why is it called a survivor suit?
Because of the amount of protection it offers! And that starts with the material. This suit is made from RockTex.
What’s so great about RockTex?
It has incredible abrasion resistance. That fabric won’t let you down. Plus, at 600 denier, it’ll maintain it’s awesome quality for a long time to come. And it’s resistant to heat as well. A material such a this won’t be affected by a hot exhaust. It’s unlikely to melt or warp if accidentally brushed against the bike.
Not to mention, it’s waterproof, keeping us safe and dry in lousy weather. That even extends to the inside of the pockets. They’re lined with a moisture-resistant fabric too.
Now, that RockTex is backed up by something many other suits don’t have. It actually has some hard armor at key points on the body! OK, it’s fairly minimal, but it does give it an edge over a lot of other options in this review.
Is it comfortable?
We think so! It’s pretty perfect for almost any body shape, thanks to its amazing adjustable points. In fact, there are a huge 14 sections that can be customized, from waist to chest to ankles.
Plus, for even more comfort, it has a great ventilation system. It’ll keep the rider cool on those hot days. And in the winter, there’s ample padding to keep us snug and warm.
There’s a lot to like here. It’s light, it’s tough, and it protects well against the elements. All at a wallet-friendly price!
Pros
- Contains body armor.
- Reflective strips for extra safety.
- Customizable size.
Cons
- Slightly boring design.
Best Motorcycle Riding Suit Buying Guide
We love shopping for new motorcycle gear! But it isn’t an easy task. Advancements in protective technology are being made every day, and sometimes it’s hard to keep up.
So, what should we look for when choosing the best motorcycle suit?
Let’s start with the material. This boils down to two basic options: leather or synthetic fabric.
Leather is incredible. Its durability is second to none, it holds up well against abrasions, and it offers a snug fit. Plus, it usually looks awesome too!
But there are a couple of downsides. For one, leather can be pricy. That’s fine for a professional motorcycle suit but is too expensive for a casual rider. And we have to say it; wet leathers stink! After a hard day out on the track, they can get seriously pungent! Using them in rainy weather can result in some pretty unpleasant odors.
So, for the general rider, we’d recommend a synthetic fabric. They tend to be cheaper but still have some first-rate qualities.
But, which qualities are the most important?
It has to be waterproof. There are few sensations worse than that first feeling of rain seeping inside! The material should keep out bad weather and wick dampness away from the skin.
But it needs to work equally well on sunny days, too. For that, we want a ventilation system. It should have at least four slits that can be opened and closed at will to allow the constant flow-through of fresh air.
How about armor?
Well, it would be nice to have some hardware included. But all too often, it’s sold separately. In an ideal world, we’d ask for hard pads over the knees, elbows, and shoulders, but it’s not always easy to find a suit with these built-in.
If there is no armor present, then it’s important to have a decent amount of padding. It should be thick enough to cushion a blow without being over-stuffed. Yes, we want to be safe, but we don’t want to look like the Michelin man either!
And the fabric has to offer abrasion resistance. It shouldn’t tear if dragged along the road. If it does, then you’re likely to end up with exposed skin, and that could spell disaster.
What else?
Motorcycle gear sizing can often be a bit strange. It’s a good idea to try before you buy if possible, as the sizes usually run small compared to regular clothes. Plus, it might be a good idea to look for a suit with adjustable sections to deal with any weight gain or loss.
And finally, there’s the cost. Good motorcycle riding gear is not cheap. Choose the item that offers the most bang for your buck, and remember, you get what you pay for.

We loved some of these suits. But there was a clear winner! We’ve chosen the…
Joe Rocket 1370-4005 Survivor Men’s Waterproof 1-Piece Motorcycle Riding Suit
Though we were impressed by that Alpinestars race suit, it was just too pricy for most people. This Joe Rocket survivor suit offers much better value for money. That RockTex fabric is just incredible, and its strength and comfort make it the ideal choice.
Plus, it actually contained some hard armor! It provides far more protection than most of the others we looked at. That peace of mind is really worth paying an extra couple of bucks for.
So, happy riding, folks!
