Top 8 Best Motorcycle Phone Mounts for all Budgets Reviews
1 Givi Smart Clip Universal Smartphone Holder – Best Motorcycle Phone Mount for Filming Ride
Givi is a well-established company with a long history in making motorcycle luggage and accessories. They specialize in manufacturing high-quality, robust, and sturdy products. Happily, the Givi Smart Clip Universal Smartphone Holder is no exception to this.
Quick and easy install…
This smartphone holder can be fitted to any pipe or tubing with a diameter between 8mm to 35mm. This makes it suitable for mounting on just about any handlebars, mirrors, or cross braces. Fixing it is easy and doesn’t require the use of any tools. The rear of the holder has an integrated knob for tightening the clamp onto the handlebars. It’s quick and easy to adjust.
There’s a choice of two sizes. The medium size will accommodate an iPhone 4 and the large size an iPhone 6+ or equivalent sized phone.
How does it work?
It holds your phone with three spring-loaded arms. These are easy to put your phone into and take your phone out of. But, even better, they hold your phone super-tight. Even over rough ground, your phone is going nowhere. Additionally, to ensure your phone isn’t damaged, there are well-padded rubber corners on each of the arms.
One of the features we love about this holder is that it doesn’t interfere with the rear-facing camera. This means that you can use it to record parts of your ride relatively easily should you so wish.
Needs a tube…
One of the things we don’t like is that it does require tubular shapes for correct mounting.
- High-quality use of materials.
- Super-strong spring-loaded arms.
- Fits any tubular shape between 8mm to 35mm.
- Well-padded rubber arms.
- It’s expensive.
- It will only fit onto tubular objects.
2 Chrome Motorcycle Mount for Phone – by TACKFORM – Best Versatile Motorcycle Phone Mount for One Hand Use
Next up in our best motorcycle phone mounts review is another premium quality phone mount. It’s made from high-quality aluminum that’s both durable and weatherproof. There’s no doubt that this is a phone holder that will last and last.
It has a sturdy clamp-based mounting system that will fit handlebars that measure 7/8”, 1”, 1 1/8”, and 1.25”. You simply attach the mount to the handlebars by adding the right size of custom bush. The bushes make it suitable for use with most sizes of handlebars though unfortunately, it’s too wide to fit most mirror arms.
Fitting the holder is quick and easy. It requires no tools as it’s secured using an integrated clamp knob. It shouldn’t take you more than minutes to get this attached to your motorcycle handlebars and ready to go.
One of its top strengths is that it can hold just about any phone. It can hold all smartphones up to 3.4” wide and ½ thick. It does this via two industrial strength clamp arms.
The arms can hold your phone either in standard or portrait mode. Additionally, all makes of the phone will benefit from being able to use the rear-facing camera unhindered. Plus, the cradle arms make it easy to house and remove your phone single-handed.
You’ll need a phone case…
The cradle is well padded, so there’s no chance of it getting damaged by the mount. However, unfortunately, because most of the phone is exposed at the back, it leaves it liable to getting damaged by flying dirt and debris. This is a weakness of this kind of system. We’d strongly recommend using a phone case back to protect your phone because of it.
- Easy to fit.
- Industrial strength cradle arms.
- Fits a wide size range of phones.
- Strong and durable.
- Most of the phone’s rear is not protected.
3 GUB Bicycle & Motorcycle Phone Mount with 360° Rotation – Best Slimline Motorcycle Phone Mount
This is a strong and durable phone mount made from aluminum. This means it will never corrode regardless of what the weather throws at it.
The GUB will fit on handlebars that measure 31.8mm, 25.4mm, and 22.2mm. It comes with three different bushes to achieve a snug fit. Unlike some other phone holders, you will need a hex key to secure it to your bars, but it’s hardly a deal-breaker and is still quick to fit. One of the advantages of using a hex bolt is that it achieves a more slim-line profile.
Another big plus is that it can accommodate just about any size and make of phone. GUB provides an extensive list of what phones will fit. However, it’s highly unlikely that your phone won’t be on the list.
Safe and secure, but maybe too much…
Securing the phone into the mount is done by tightening the knurled clamp bolt. Frankly, this is a bit cumbersome and hardly smooth to operate. There’s no doubt that it holds the phone securely, but it’s a two-handed operation and takes time to put in and take out. If you have to regularly take your phone out of the mount, we wouldn’t recommend this one.
OK, but is it stable in the mount?
Once in the mount, it can be rotated through 360 degrees, and so you can have the phone in both landscape or portrait mode. The claws hold the phone at the edges, so none of the screen is obscured.
Although it’s a secure mounting system, it does tend to vibrate more than some alternatives. Plus, there’s no padding on either the claws or the back of the mount. This, therefore, leaves your phone liable to scratching if it’s not in a case. An unfortunate omission, in our opinion.
- Strong and durable.
- Made from aluminum.
- Solid fit on the handlebars.
- Compatible with a wide range of phones.
- No padding on the claws.
- Prone to vibration.
4 RAM X-Grip Universal Phone Holder – Best Motorcycle Thick Phone Mount
The RAM X-Grip Universal Phone Holder is almost entirely made from marine-grade aluminum. This makes it durable and means that you never have to worry about corrosion.
The holder comprises a universal grip with the ball and composite socket arm. You will need to buy these together as they are sold separately and will not work without each other. It’s helpful to be able to replace either of the parts rather than the whole system. Plus, if you regularly use more than one bike, you can buy two composite socket arms and just one universal grip to save a little cash.
The phone holder can be fixed onto any size of handlebars quickly and easily. It doesn’t require tools to fit as it has an integrated plastic knob for fixing. Although it will fit onto handlebars, it should be noted that the clamp is too wide to fit on mirror stalks.
Does it protect your phone?
The cradle arms are padded and will not damage your phone. If you don’t use a case, that will be OK. The rear of the holder will also not scratch the back of your phone.
The arms are spring-loaded, which makes it easy to take your phone in and out. This is a simple, though two-handed operation, but it’s still an excellent alternative for those of you that are frequently on and off the bike.
Practical and versatile…
You can use almost any size of the phone with the RAM X-Grip. Even better, you can also use it with a thick case attached as it’s able to carry phones or just about any thickness.
- Parts can be bought separately.
- Strong and durable.
- No tools are required for fitting.
- Will not scratch your phone.
- Can accommodate phones with thick cases.
- Cradle arms may come in contact with the phone’s controls.
5 Vibrelli Universal Motorcycle & Bike Phone Mount – Best Affordable Padded Phone Mount for Bicycles and Motorbike
This is an inexpensive option that can be used on motorcycles as well as bicycles. It will fit any handlebar between 0.9” to 1.3”. Fitting doesn’t require tools as it has an integrated screw-like plastic knob for fixing.
The holder has two ways to hold the phone, and we like that a lot. It gives an extra layer of security and gives an extra level of confidence that your phone isn’t going to end up on the floor. However, although it holds your phone securely, it would be nice if there was a little extra vibration dampening.
It holds your phone at the sides by two sprung-loaded padded claws. Plus, there is a silicone strap that pulls over all four corners of your phone. It’s easy to both put on and take off, it doesn’t interfere with your phone’s controls, and it doesn’t obscure the screen.
We think so. We also like that the holder comes with an extra two silicone straps. Since this is the first part of the holder liable to wear, it’s a beneficial inclusion. Just be sure to regularly check the silicone strap you’re using for wear or damage.
Better safe than sorry!
When clamped onto your bars, the phone can be moved around 360 degrees thanks to the ball and socket design. This makes it easy to position into the perfect viewing position. Additionally, the ball and socket are stiff enough not to shake loose but loose enough that you don’t need to be a competitive weight lifter to move it into place.
The Vibrelli mount, despite its low price, is well made and one of the better mounts on the market. Vibrelli seems to think so too, as they provide a five years manufacturer’s warranty. Always good to see and a real vote of confidence in their product.
- Will not scratch or damage your phone.
- Comes with two extra silicone straps.
- Easy to put in and out of the mount.
- Ball and socket joint.
- Five years manufactures warranty.
- Vibration dampening could be better.
6 Givi S957B Smartphone Holder – Best Weather Protected Motorcycle Phone Mount
This is another high-quality phone holder from Givi.
It uses the same fitting system found on the Givi Smart Clip we previously reviewed. This means you get a premium-made clamp that can be fitted onto any tubular surface between 8mm to 35mm in diameter. Unlike most phone holders, you can therefore fix it to mirrors as well as handlebars.
What differentiates the Givi S957B Smartphone Holder from the other holders in our review is that it has a waterproof cover. But, in many ways, this can be a double-edged sword.
Let us explain…
The obvious advantage is that it protects your phone from rain. Now that’s undoubtedly a good thing as no matter how water resistant your phone is supposed to be, exposure to driving rain is never recommended.
The other positive is that it comes with a sunshade that covers the top and most of the sides. This might not seem like a serious issue, but if you live in a predominantly all-year-round sunny climate, it is. Trying to see the screen when the sun is at its highest can be a nightmare.
So, what are the negatives?
The first is that you’re very much restricted to the size of the phone that will fit. Its size will clearly limit the maximum size of your phone. However, if you use a phone that’s too small, it will flop around inside the case, which can make screen orientation difficult. Additionally, it can make the controls on the side of your phone hard to operate.
The other big negative is that it’s harder to operate the touchscreen. Yes, we know; Givi reassures us that it has a touch-sensitive surface. And that’s great. But just try telling that to your fingers and phone. It’s not that it doesn’t work; it’s more the fact that it can be inconsistent.
A few compromises…
On the whole, where weather conditions dictate, it’s an excellent choice. However, just be very aware of some of the compromises that come with it. If you’re happy with these, then all will be well.
- High-quality construction.
- Strong and easy to fix clamp.
- Excellent weather protection.
- Built-in sunshade.
- Only really suitable for certain phones.
- Touch-sensitive surface can be inconsistent.
7 Leepiya Motorcycle Phone Mount with Wireless and USB Charger – Best Motorcycle Phone Mount with Built In Charger
The Leepiya Motorcycle Phone Mount will fit on most handlebars. No tools are required, and you can get the mount fitted in a matter of minutes. More good news is that it’s also compatible with just about every kind of phone you can think of.
Excellent vibration reduction…
It holds your phone by its four padded claw corners. The spring is definitely strong enough to keep your phone in place even over the roughest ground. Additionally, it’s good at reducing vibrations. Plus, it’s easy to get your phone in to and out of one-handed. If you’re frequently on and off the bike, this is a great option.
One of the huge positives is that it also comes with an inbuilt phone charger. This is great in itself, but we’re sure you’ll agree that the ability to charge contactless as well as via a USB connection is fantastic. With the Leepiya Phone Mount, you need never worry about your battery running out again.
The phone charger can be disconnected whenever you want.
Great! But is it difficult to install?
Using the charging function requires a little extra installation time as you have to run the cable and wire into the battery. It’s a straightforward piece of wiring, but the line is relatively thin and would benefit from a thicker and more robust outer core.
One positive to finish on is that there is a built-in anti-theft cap. This undoubtedly makes it one of the best motorcycle phone mounts for hanging on to your smartphone.
- Reduces vibrations.
- Strong mount.
- Integrated phone charger.
- Contactless charger.
- Anti-theft cap.
- Installation time.
- Thin cable for battery connection.
8 MA Mob Armor MOBC2-BLK-LG Mob Mount Claw – Best Phone Clamp for Adventure Biking
This works by holding your phone via three contact points—two at the bottom and one at the top. Placing your phone in the holder requires adjusting the tab at the top with the integrated plastic screw at the rear.
Lock it down…
On the whole, this is a safe system, but it comes with the caveat that you must be careful to ensure the tab has been properly locked down. If you don’t, you run the risk of losing your phone at high speeds.
One of the disadvantages of this system is that firstly it’s a two-handed operation. Secondly, it is open to human error compared to a spring-loaded alternative that will offer consistent phone security.
The clamp design for attaching to the handlebars is also a little different. Its shape allows you to clamp on to objects that are not necessarily round. This makes it great for use in all kinds of places and situations when you’re off the bike. Another positive is that it’s a powerful clamp and possibly the best we’ve seen on any motorcycle phone mount.
The mount pivots on a ball and socket and so can be moved through a full 360° to give you a perfect viewing angle. The well-padded claws also don’t interfere with the phone’s buttons or view, so you get a great view of your phone and easy access to all of its functions.
Get the right fit…
There are two sizes available, so you need to check carefully with the manufacturer to see which is compatible with your make and model of phone. If you have a narrow phone, this is something you need to pay particular attention to.
- Very strong mounting clamp.
- Mount will fit onto non-round objects.
- Full view is assured.
- Claws don’t interfere with buttons on the phone.
- Care needed to properly secure the adjustable tab.
Best Motorcycle Phone Mounts Buying Guide
Handlebar Clamp Mounting System
Most of the clamping systems can be mounted without the use of tools since they have an integrated clamp knob. There’s no doubt that this is quicker, but since you only need access to a hex key, for most other systems, it’s hardly a deal-breaker.
All the clamps in our review hold a tight grip. However, the MA Mob Armor MOBC2-BLK-LG Mob Mount is one of the top motorcycle phone mounts we’ve seen for grip quality. Plus, it can also be attached to non-round objects. This makes it versatile for use off the bike and is a clear winner for us.
Phone Mount Claws
Important considerations when accessing the mount claws include; the level of padding, interference with your phone’s control buttons, and the ease of taking your phone in and out of the claw’s mount.
Some of the phone mounts have no padding at all, which can leave your phone prone to scratching at the points of contact. If you don’t use a phone case, it’s an important consideration. We feel the best padding offered is by the Vibrelli Universal Motorcycle & Bike Phone Mount.
What not to go for if you want full phone access…
Phone holders like the Givi S957B are the worst offenders for interfering with the use of your phone’s control buttons. It can be awkward and at times close to impossible to operate them, depending on your phone, which can make them less than optimal in some circumstances.
When it comes to taking your phone in and out of the mount, the best motorbike phone mounts use a spring-loaded mechanism. This makes it possible to take your phone on and off the mount single-handed. Our top pick here is the Vibrelli again.
Good vibration dampening will reduce potential damage, make the phone easier to operate on the move, and will also make the screen easier to see. The phone mount with the best vibration dampening is the Leepiya Motorcycle Phone Mount.
Check carefully before you buy that the phone mount can accommodate your phone. Some, like the Givi S957B, have a very short list of compatible phones. On the other hand, the Chrome Motorcycle Mount by TACKFORM is compatible with pretty much every phone you can buy.
It’s also worth checking if the phone mounts have different sizes. This is the case with the Givi S957B as well as with the MA Mob Armor MOBC2-BLK-LG Mob Mount.
Except for a closed case, like the Givi S957B, you get zero protection from the elements. Although smartphones these days have good levels of water resistance, they are far from perfect. This being the case, if you frequently ride in poor and rainy conditions, a closed case weatherproof phone mount could very well be right for you.
