1 BOSS Audio Systems MC720B Motorcycle Speaker System – Best Premium Motorcycle Handlebar Speakers

Please don’t stop the music…

Our first set of motorcycle speakers come from Boss Audio. We doubt there are many riders who haven’t heard of this brand! For over 30 years, they’ve been at the forefront of manufacturing first-rate audio solutions.

Featuring chrome plating, these speakers add a touch of class. They just scream old-school cool! And while they’d look great on any motorcycle, we think that on a classic bike, they would really shine.

So, we know they look awesome. But how do they work?

Well, we have a couple of options here. Firstly, they have Bluetooth capabilities. Simply pair the speakers with a smartphone, and we can stream music using any app we choose. Bluetooth has an excellent range! In fact, it’ll connect up to roughly 40 feet away from the speaker. During rest stops, we can step away from the bike without interrupting the connection.

And then, there’s a 3.5mm aux input. This is for hard wiring our device. A phone or MP3 player can be easily hooked up with a cable, allowing the music to play the old-fashioned way. The volume is handled by remote control. This can be wired in on the handlebars alongside the speaker. We can conveniently turn the sound up or down without taking our eyes off the road.

What about that volume, though? Is it loud enough?

We think so! We have the 1000 watt amp to thank for that. Even when used on a thumping Harley Road King, we will still be able to hear the music over the engine. A minor downside here is the sound quality. It has a little too much treble. If you’re a drum and bass head, these may not be the best motorcycle speakers for you.

But for everyone else, they’re a great option! And at a reasonable price to boot!

BOSS Audio Systems MC720B Motorcycle Speaker System

Our rating:4.2 out of 5 stars (4.2 / 5)

Pros

  • Excellent Bluetooth range.
  • 3-year warranty.
  • Weather-proof.

Cons

  • Lacks bass.

2 KICKER 40PSM34 4 Ohm Mini Weatherproof Speaker System – Best Mid Range Motorcycle Handlebar Speakers

Play that funky music…
Next up, we have a diminutive option. Weighing just 3.45 pounds, these mini speakers won’t draw much attention. They fit unobtrusively on the handlebars, without changing the overall look of the bike. The speakers are encased in a classic chrome shell. Not only does it look fantastic, but it’s also waterproof too! They remain impervious to moisture damage, whatever the weather.

They’re easily attached to the handlebars with small, yet solid rings. And don’t worry, all the mounting hardware we need is included! A quick glance at the simple instructions, and we’ll have them fitted in a moment.

But let’s get down to the important stuff. How is the sound quality?

It’s pretty good! Overall, the sound was quite well-balanced, with neither too much treble nor bass. We think it would be suitable for most music genres, from heavy metal to K-pop.

They can cope with high volume too. Often, smaller speakers can end up with a distorted sound, or can even blow out completely! Not so here. They may be tiny, but they can stand up to big noises!

So far, so good. But what’s the catch?

They are not amplified motorcycle speakers, or powered speakers as they are also known. So, the amp is something that we need to buy ourselves. This can be a time-consuming job, as we need to find the amp and speakers that best complement each other. And considering the amp is not included, the price is pretty steep!

Other speakers we’ve looked at have come with it included, for a much lower cost. For this kind of expense, we would not expect it to be sold separately. So, for riders that already have an amp, they’re great! But thanks to the cost, others may want to look elsewhere.

KICKER 40PSM34 4 Ohm Mini Weatherproof Speaker System

Our rating:4.5 out of 5 stars (4.5 / 5)

Pros

  • Unobtrusive good looks.
  • Impressive sound quality.

Cons

  • Need to be an additional amplifier.
  • Not the best value for money.

3 LEXIN LX-S3 Motorcycle Bluetooth Speakers – Best Motorcycle Bluetooth Speakers

Thank you for the music…

Next, in our reviews of the Best Motorcycle Handlebar Speakers, these speakers from Lexin have a seriously awesome design. Their attractive bullet shape turns them into an alluring talking point on the handlebars. This is an impressive option, with multiple sources of input. What does that mean? Basically, it offers us a variety of ways to play our music!

For a start, we have a Bluetooth function. Simply pair it with a smartphone, and away we go! It offers effortless streaming from any Bluetooth-enabled device. Then, we get USB compatibility. No smartphone? No problem! We can just carry our tunes on the thumb drive that securely plugs in via a cable.

Something we really liked…

And there’s good old-fashioned radio. Sometimes we don’t want to trouble of planning what we want to listen to! The FM tuner allows us to catch up with the news of today, as well as listen to the top 40.

And this product has a lot more to offer too!

Remember that USB connection we mentioned earlier? It doubles up as a phone charger! Using an ordinary charging cable, we can ensure that we’ll never run out of juice on the go.

Wait, there’s more!

On the left speaker, we get all the controls we could possibly want. On/0ff button, play and pause, volume dial, FM radio search; what more could we need? These are speakers with a lot to give.

On the downside, those buttons can be fiddly when wearing gloves. And we need to keep watching the road, so we’d need to familiarize ourselves with them before setting off. That’s a minor inconvenience, though. And at a wallet-friendly price, we get plenty of bang for our buck!

LEXIN LX-S3 Motorcycle Bluetooth Speakers

Our rating:4.2 out of 5 stars (4.2 / 5)

Pros

  • Multiple ways to play music.
  • Wide range of controls.
  • Waterproof.
  • Built-in phone charger.

Cons

  • Buttons can be awkward to use.

4 GoHawk RD8 Waterproof Bluetooth Motorcycle Stereo Speakers – Best Budget Motorcycle Handlebar Speakers

Soul music…

Now for a motorcycle soundbar. This unique design wraps all the way around the center of the handlebars. With two large mounting clamps, it removes any worry of the speaker falling off at high speeds.

This time, we get a whopping four different ways of listening to music! There’s something for everyone here! Of course, it has Bluetooth capabilities. That much we expect.

But what else?

How about a micro SD card option? Or a USB port? This speaker has both! We can carry MP3 files on one of these tiny devices, ready to plug into the speaker. Or if you prefer, there’s also a radio function. Get the latest weather information or simply remove the hassle of choosing the music in advance. This speaker gives us that choice.

Flanked by the two gray volume outputs is an easy-to-read digital display. Not only does this show us the time, but it also lets us know what feature we’re currently using, or which radio station we’re tuned into. And underneath is a series of buttons for volume, mode changes, or skipping tracks.

This sounds too good to be true! Is it?

Well, sort of. We love having all those awesome features, but unfortunately, the sound quality lets it down. It is a little on the tinny side. And for big bike riders, it just isn’t loud enough. At high speeds, or with a full-face helmet, we can’t hear much. It’s fine for smaller bikes or cruising around town, but not for the open road.

But this is reflected in the price. For scooter riders on a budget, this could be the one for you!

GoHawk RD8 Waterproof Bluetooth Motorcycle Stereo Speakers

Our rating:3.7 out of 5 stars (3.7 / 5)

Pros

  • Low cost.
  • Pleasing design.
  • Excellent range of music sources.

Cons

  • Lacking in sound quality.

5 GoHawk AR4-Halo LED 4″ All-in-One Waterproof Bluetooth Motorcycle Stereo Speakers – Best Affordable Motorcycle Handlebar Speakers

The hills are alive with the sound of music…

With their white LED halo, this set of speakers is seriously eye-catching! Add a touch of dramatic lighting to your hog! Weighing in at 1.98 pounds, this is a featherweight option. It sure won’t weigh the bike down. We want a speaker that doesn’t alter our handlebar movement, and here that’s exactly what we get.

So, what makes this one of the best motorcycle speakers around?

For a start, we get an awesome range of input options. We’ve got Bluetooth, with a transmission range of almost 50 feet. We’ve got an aux cable. And we’ve even got a USB port for MP3 files.

And there’s an FM radio. We were astonished by how many speakers don’t offer this choice nowadays, so we’re glad that this one does. Sure it’s a little old-fashioned, but everyone listens to the radio from time to time, don’t they?

But there’s something you should know…

To manage the speakers, there is a separate remote control. With four large buttons, it’s a convenient way to adjust the volume, skip songs, or turn it on and off. A word of caution, though; those buttons each serve multiple purposes! Be sure to read the instructions carefully, or it can appear that the speakers are not working!

For riders on a budget, these speakers are amazing. To have so many extra features at such a low price is pretty unusual. Why is it so inexpensive? Unfortunately, it’s to do with volume. Though the sound quality is clear, at higher speeds, we can’t hear anything. It needs to be just a little louder, to really impress us.

What’s our verdict?

For easy listening at lower speeds, they’re great! Commuters and cruisers, this could be the one for you!

GoHawk AR4-Halo LED 4

Our rating:3.3 out of 5 stars (3.3 / 5)

Pros

  • Good selection of input options.
  • Super cool LED lights.
  • Fantastic price.

Cons

  • Needs more volume.

6 Kuryakyn 2712 MTX Road Thunder Weather Resistant Motorcycle Speakers – Loudest Motorcycle Speakers

Let’s face the music and dance…

Next in our Best Motorcycle Handlebar Speakers reviews, we have the Road Thunder model! But can it live up to its name? Quite frankly, yes! These were some of the loudest motorcycle speakers we looked at. The search for a set of speakers that could be heard over a throbbing Indian Chief engine was difficult. But here, I think we’ve finally found them.

And not only are they loud, but their sound quality is also fantastic too. No crackling or distortion; these speakers are crystal clear. Plus, they’re well-balanced, without too much bass or treble.

These have to be the winner, right?

Not so fast! We have to pay for this kind of quality. And this product is eye-wateringly expensive!

So, let’s look at their other features…

They come in an ABS casing with a chrome finish. Not only does ABS offer great protection against high impact falls, but it’s also waterproof. And with that shiny outer layer, they’re devilishly handsome too.

A remote control is included, which can be attached to the handlebars nest to the speaker. We like this control. Its simple design is user-friendly, and thanks to its size, we can clearly see the buttons, even when riding.

But overall…

There is only one way to play music here, and that’s via Bluetooth. While we do think this is the easiest route to take, it is kind of disappointing that we don’t have more options. We’d like a USB port, or maybe a radio too.

But that aside, these are some incredible speakers. OK, they’re expensive. But maybe here, we get what we pay for.

Kuryakyn 2712 MTX Road Thunder Weather Resistant Motorcycle Speakers

Our rating:4.1 out of 5 stars (4.1 / 5)

Pros

  • Exemplary sound quality.
  • First-rate remote control design.
  • Waterproof ABS construction.

Cons

  • Extremely costly.
  • Bluetooth only.

7 JBL Wind Bike Portable Bluetooth Speaker with FM Radio and Supports A Micro SD Card – Best Value for the Money Motorcycle Handlebar Speakers

Turn up the music…

Bargain hunters, pay attention! This JBL motorcycle speaker could be the one for you! At first glance, this seems like a fairly basic model. Just one round, black, speaker, what’s so great about that? But this diminutive soundbox packs in a whole lot!

Not only is it a speaker, but it also has a hands-free calling feature too! Just pair it up to a smartphone, and any calls will come straight through. And with a built-in microphone, we can chat with whomever we choose while on the go. And of course, we use that Bluetooth function for playing music too. But that’s not our only option! We also get a micro SD card reader and FM radio as well.

Now, this item is far easier to install than others on this list. Why?

We don’t need to wire it to our motorcycle battery. Instead, it has its own rechargeable battery included. It gives us roughly 10 hours of playing time, perfect for a long day out on the roads.

But there is an issue with installation. The mounting hardware needs to be more robust. We’d worry about our speaker falling and getting damaged, as that bracket is a bit flimsy.

As we mentioned earlier…

This is one for riders who love a bargain. It is definitely easy on the bank balance! Is that reflected in the quality? Sadly, yes. While the sound is good, it doesn’t match some of the others we’ve looked at here. It’s loud enough, but doesn’t have that smooth tone we want.

But at a price like this, what do we expect? And despite that, this is still a decent little speaker.

JBL Wind Bike Portable Bluetooth Speaker with FM Radio and Supports A Micro SD Card

Our rating:3.9 out of 5 stars (3.9 / 5)

Pros

  • Simple installation.
  • Hands-free calling.
  • Low cost.

Cons

  • Flimsy bracket.
  • Unbalanced sound.

8 BOSS Audio Systems MCBK520B Motorcycle Speaker and Amplifier Sound System – Best BOSS Motorcycle Handlebar Speakers

I’ve got the music in me…

We started with Boss Audio, so we’ll finish with Boss Audio! How do these speakers match up to our first item? Volume is the name of the game here. These are loud! As they’re only 3 inches in diameter, we expected this to be a problem, but happily, we were proven wrong.

The sound quality is impressive, too. Again, we didn’t expect a speaker this small to sound this good. While it is slightly on the treble side (as so many are), we were pleasantly surprised by the tone we received.

What about the amp?

Unlike many others, the amplifier isn’t built-in here. Instead, it’s a separate component that needs to be wired in. But luckily, it’s small enough that it doesn’t get in the way and can be discreetly hidden underneath the handlebars.

Regarding input, we have plenty of choices. There’s our old friend Bluetooth, there’s the aux port, there’s an FM radio. And the SD card and USB ports are just the icing on the cake.

Do you want to know the best part?

A real bonus is the mounting bar. Thanks to rubber grommets, it is prevented from scratching the handlebar. And as another plus, it also stops the speakers from moving, even on a vibrating Royal Enfield at 80mph!

All this at a low price! There has to be a downside, right?

Yes. And unfortunately, it’s to do with the input options. While there are plenty of them, they have their issues. The radio is difficult to tune and not very powerful. And the Bluetooth is unreliable. We may find ourselves stopping a lot for repeatedly pairing it with our phone.

That’s a little disappointing. But regarding sound quality, this item definitely holds its place on our list of the best motorcycle speakers!

BOSS Audio Systems MCBK520B Motorcycle Speaker and Amplifier Sound System

Our rating:3.7 out of 5 stars (3.7 / 5)

Pros

  • Decent tone.
  • Scratch-resistant bar.
  • Good price.

Cons

  • Unreliable.

Best Motorcycle Handlebar Speakers Buying Guide

Best Motorcycle Handlebar Speakers Reviews

When listening to music while riding, we want to have a first-rate audio experience! But that’s not an easy thing to find. What do we need to look out for?

First things first; do we need an amp?

Most of the products we looked at in this list were amplified motorcycle speakers. The amp was already built-in. Remember – no amp, no sound! If we choose a speaker without, we’ll need to buy one separately.

Then, we’ve got to consider volume. How noisy is your ride?

We need to ensure that our music can be heard over the top of a thumping engine. Are you a fan of bass-heavy music? Smaller speakers often have problems with this. They can be treble-inclined or tinny sounding. It’s essential that we look for a speaker with a well-balanced sound.

But it’s important to remember that these little speakers are unlikely to have the same sound quality as the larger speakers we use at home. It’s just beyond their capabilities. So, try to keep your expectations reasonable!

Next, let’s think about input.

As we saw in this review, there are so many different ways to play music, from Bluetooth to MP3. It’s entirely up to you which you prefer, but we’d recommend a device with a wide range of options, so you’re covered in any situation.

Then, there’s control.

We might want to skip a song or adjust the volume. We need an easy way of doing so while moving, so we don’t have to take our eyes off the road. A device that attaches next to, or on the speakers, would be ideal here.

And of course, we need to think about the weather.

We’ve all been unexpectedly stuck in the rain! At the very least, we’d expect our speakers to have some kind of moisture resistance for those unexpected downpours.

Oh, and one last thing. Price.

While no one wants to spend too much money, don’t sacrifice too much quality for the price. As with most things in life, when it comes to the best motorcycle sound system, we get what we pay for.

For all of your motorcycle needs…

We’ve got your covered. We’ve tested all of the top products so that we can bring you only the very best. So, check out our reviews of the Best Motorcycle Cleaners, the Best Motorcycle GPS Trackers, the Best Motorcycle Rain Gear, the Best Motorcycle Storage Shed, the Best Motorcycle Shocks, and the Best Motorcycle Helmet Locks currently on the market.

Or how about the Best Motorcycle Tire Changers, the Best Motorcycle Racing Helmets, the Best Motorcycle Disc Locks, the Best Motorcycle Leg Bags, and the Best Motorcycle Helmet Cameras you can buy in 2021.

So, what are the Best Motorcycle Handlebar Speakers?

This was tricky, as we saw some awesome speakers at fantastic prices. But we’ve chosen the…

LEXIN LX-S3 Motorcycle Bluetooth Speakers

These were the best all-rounder. They had an outstanding range of ways to play music, and the sound quality was fantastic. Combined with waterproofing capabilities and a very reasonable price, they were the stand out winner for sure.

Their one downside was the buttons. But with a little practice, they’ll cease to be a problem in no time! And don’t forget, with their bullet design and chrome finish, they look awesome too!

So, happy riding, folks!
