If you need a smaller size still, the good news is that they can also be easily be cut to size. A sharp pair of scissors or a carpet knife will do the job.

Felt fabric…

The mat has a felt fabric upper layer. This does a great job of absorbing liquids. It will retain all the kinds of fluids that are likely to be used in a garage, such as oil, brake fluid, and coolant.

The lowest layer has a waterproof backing, so any dirt, grime, or fluid cannot penetrate your garage floor. What’s more, the lower layer also has an adhesive quality, so it won’t slip around and will stay put once it’s in position.

Cleaning it?

Washing the mat couldn’t be easier, and you can wash it in just about any way you choose. This includes using a pressure hose, pressure washer, or you can even put it in the washing machine. So, is it any good?

Positives are that it’s absorbent, and Polyfibers in the mat can retain a large amount of fluid, despite the thin layer. Additionally, it has a Polyfilm backing that should keep any liquids, such as battery acid, in the mat and off your garage floor.

It does a good job in this respect, though some customers have complaints that the mat was burnt through with battery acid and penetrated the floor. Whilst we don’t doubt this happened, it could easily have been because a substantial volume of acid had leaked onto the mat.

Frankly, where battery acid is concerned, you need more than a mat…

The mat is big enough to place under your car, SUV, or truck. If you need to cut or shape it, you only need a sharp knife or scissors.

The underside of the mat has a non-slip surface. This is effective to a point, though the underside of the mat is still liable to move around to some extent. Because it’s large and thin, it’s undoubtedly prone to wrinkling and moving underfoot.

Weigh it down…

Even worse, if your garage is not protected from the wind, the mat will lift. The only way to prevent this is to place a heavy object on each corner. Not a great solution by any means.

One of the great features is its non-slip properties. Once you put this down, it’s going nowhere. The textured layer on the bottom of the matt prevents it from moving. Plus, its weight guarantees that nothing short of a hurricane is ever going to disturb the Guardian Floor Mat.

Another strength is its ability to be used aggressively to wipe your feet and trap dirt and particles that would otherwise end up on the floor. It’s a great first level of protection for any garage or entrance.

OK, but what about cleaning it?

Cleaning is also easy. This is because the natural rubber material means that all you have to do is wash it down using a hose or power washer. Anything that cuts down on cleaning time is a massive plus in our books.

What’s it made of?

The mat is made from high-grade commercial woven PVC. It’s designed to be water-tight and to be highly durable.

The primary purpose of the Hanjet mat is to keep rain, mud, snow, and rain off the surface of your garage floor. The mat should therefore be installed so you can drive straight onto it from outside. That way, the dirt, and grime will be left on the mat and not the garage floor.

The mat does not move or slip around when you drive on to it. This is also the case when you walk on it. Plus, it doesn’t blow around in the wind unless there’s an absolute gale blowing.

So, what doesn’t it do?

It cannot absorb fluids, so it should be kept away from things like battery acid and oil or any corrosive fluids. If it does come in contact with corrosives, it’s likely to burn a hole straight through and onto your garage floor.

Resistance to Corrosive Fluids

Some of the floor mats on our list have no resistance to corrosive fluids whatsoever. And this is fine. They are there to protect your garage against outside dirt, water, and snow.

For the remaining mats in our review, the ability to stand up to harsh chemical fluids is essential. Most do this reasonably well. However, The New Pig Corporation-PM50443 Heavy Duty Pig Mat is again a clear winner. It has eight layers and deals with corrosive fluids brilliantly. What it lacks in size, this mat certainly makes up for in strength.

Durability and Ease of Cleaning

Garage mats will require regular cleaning, so the ability to withstand frequent washing and the time spent on the cleaning process is essential. None of us wants to spend an unreasonable amount of time cleaning a gunk-filled garage mat.

Happily, all of the mats can be either hosed down or cleaned with a pressure washer. This saves a decent amount of time over having to wash by hand. Some can also be put into a washing machine, like the KALASONEER Oil Spill Mat, though it’s not something we’d recommend.
