Each ramp measures nine inches wide and 36 inches deep. They can safely hold a gross vehicle weight of up to 12,000 pounds and are compatible with vehicles that have tires up to nine inches wide.

Non-skid design…

These RhinoGear ramps feature Core-Trac non-skid feet that will hold the ramps in place when driving up onto them. However, these non-skid pads could be much larger, in our opinion.

Once your tire passes over the Core-Trac grip, we could feel the ramps slide a tiny bit. Fortunately, the ramp’s surface is textured and provides additional grip, and also includes a raised end to let you know when to stop your vehicle.

Nicely inclined designed…

RhinoGear has made these ramps suitable for use with low-clearance vehicles. The ramps offer a steady incline of 17 degrees and raise your vehicle’s tires eight and a half inches off the ground. With the reasonable amount of height these ramps provide, you can easily slide in and out from under the vehicle.

They are also very lightweight and can be stacked on top of the other when not in use. This means they will take up less room and can easily be stored in your trunk if need be.

2 Trailer-Aid Tandem Tire Changing Ramp – Best Car Ramp for Trailers

This next ramp we are looking at is from Trailer-Aid. As its name implies, this ramp is made for trailer tires, and it is specifically for trailers with tandem axles. It measures 7.5 inches wide and is just under 28 inches long.

The Trailer-Aid Tandem Tire Changing Ramp is made from a very strong polymer that can hold up to 15,000 pounds. This allows you to use the ramps even when you have a load in your trailer.

Easy to use…

This tire changing ramp is extremely easy to use. You simply slightly wedge it into your trailer’s front wheel and then slowly drive up on to it. With your tire in place, this ramp will lift the other wheel by four and a half inches, allowing you to change it easily.

While you could technically use these on the rear axle tire, you would need to drive your front wheel over the ramp. You could then move the rear wheel up onto it if it doesn’t slip in the meantime.

The Trailer-Aid is manufactured to be waterproof and rust-resistant.

3 Ramps Low Profile Plastic Car Service Ramps – 2 Pack – Best Low Profile Car Ramp

Rage Powersports Store is up next with its low profile service ramps. These come in a pair and are crafted from hard plastic that can withstand 4,000 pounds of weight. Each ramp is 7.25 inches wide and 20.5 inches long.

However, as you drive up onto the ramps, your vehicle will only raise 2.5 inches off from the ground. This is because of the ramps’ very low profile and their 9-degree angle of inclination.

Honeycomb-style channels…

Each ramp features honeycomb-style channels, which will allow anything from dirt to water to pass through them easily. Therefore, you won’t have to worry about your vehicle losing traction when you drive up onto the ramps. While the honeycomb may help in providing tire traction, it doesn’t aid the ramps in gripping to the ground.

Since these ramps only lift your car a very slight amount, they aren’t the best at providing access to the underside of your vehicle. However, they will raise it far enough for you to be able to use a standard jack to raise it further. A lot of standard jacks can not be used with sports cars due to their minimum height. These ramps provide a simple solution.

Great for low curbsides…

We found that, due to the ramps’ lack of grip and low profile height, they could be used as a curbside ramp. If your curb has a lip on it that measures 2.5 inches high, these ramps can fit perfectly up against that lip. This will give you a much smoother experience than constantly climbing and dropping that distance.

4 Tomioka Racing Super Slopes – Car Ramps – Best Portable Car Ramp

This next example from Tomioka racing is also a very low profile ramp. Like the previous ramp we looked at, this one also only raises your vehicle 2.5 inches off from the ground.

Tomioka Racing Super Slopes each measure 27 inches long and eight inches wide. They can hold up to 4,000 pounds.

Get a grip…

The hard plastic they are made from is channeled, allowing moisture to drain through the ramps. The same hard plastic is textured on the ramp’s bottom and works well at gripping on to smooth surfaces.

If you have a modified car that sits low to the ground, these ramps are great to have in the garage. Even though they only lift your car 2.5 inches, that extra height will make it easier to place a jack under your vehicle.

Great for the track…

These Super Slope ramps only weigh five pounds each, making them extremely portable, so they are a superb option for track days.

5 Portable Lightweight Plastic Curb Ramps – Most Versatile Car Ramp

Some of the Best Car Ramps are small in size while still offering a great amount of versatility. This two-piece set of yellow ramps from Pyle does just that.

Each ramp measures 27 inches wide and is 10 inches deep. They can raise 6,600-pound vehicles up to 4.1 inches high. This is because they have been crafted from a lightweight yet robust polypropylene plastic that is waterproof. The yellow color of the ramps also makes them very easy to see, even in low light conditions.

Versatile and practical…

As mentioned, these ramps are versatile and can be used for many different purposes. They provide enough height to slip a jack under easily, or you could use them as a curbside ramp, for example.

Their textured plastic surface offers a fair amount of traction. However, you will notice the ramps move a bit as you drive onto them. To remedy this problem, Pyle has designed these ramps so that they can be permanently fixed in place. You will notice two cut-out holes on each of the ramps, allowing you to do this.

A cautionary tip…

We tested this on a curb. When attaching them to the ground by using a drill, you need to be careful not to over tighten the screws you are using. We made that mistake on our test unit and found that the preformed plastic holes will crack if overtightened. The ramps will still hold in place, but it did leave us a bit concerned.

6 GNB Industry Curb Ramp Portable Lightweight Heavy Duty Plastic Threshold Ramp – Best Lightweight Car Ramp

This Genubi Industries ramp is also ideal for placing onto your curbside. It is also crafted from polypropylene and can support up to 6,000 pounds. However, since these ramps are black, you will want to be careful because they can be challenging to see in low light conditions.

They will lift your tires 4.25 inches off from the ground. And are fairly lightweight and measure 19.5 inches wide, and are 10 inches deep.

How about their stability?

On the top side of these ramps, there is a textured diamond-shaped surface pattern. This provides a good level of grip, even if they are wet. Although there isn’t a significant amount of texture on each ramp’s underside, they still grip reasonably well even on smoother surfaces. But, if you place them on gravel, for example, they will stay in place without any issues.

You can mount these permanently in place as well. To do so, we recommend using M8 x 100mm expansion bolts for the best results. The allocated holes for bolting these ramps to the ground are very robust and will aid in holding your bolts securely in place.

7 PYLE Car Vehicle Curbside Driveway Ramp – Strongest Car Ramp

Another offering from Pyle is their two-piece curbside ramp. These Pyle ramps are a good mix of the last two curbside ramps we looked at. They are mainly black except for the multiple yellow patches on them. These provide enough of a reflection for you to see them in the dark.

How about weight and strength?

Each of these ramps is made from a high-density rubber and weighs 15 pounds each! They aren’t the most portable car ramps we have looked at; that’s for sure.

While each ramp measures just over 23.5 inches wide and is a tad under 12 inches deep, and they are extremely strong. You can drive vehicles that weigh up to a staggering 50,000 pounds on to them! The ramps provide just over four inches of lift as well.

Plenty of grip…

The surface of each ramp features a few different areas of texture for increased grip. The bottom of the ramps also has some texture to it. These ramps can also be mounted in place with 10mm diameter bolts, however considering the weight, we doubt that would be necessary.

Given the heft of these ramps and their textured surfaces, they stay in place very reliably no matter how light or heavy your vehicle is.

8 Nicky Nice Solid Steel Auto Ramp Set – Best Wide Tire Car Ramp

The last set of ramps we are going to look like are from Nicky Nice. These are the only ramps in this review that are made from solid steel.

They come in a set of two and offer a lift of nine inches. Each ramp measures 13 inches wide and is 35 inches long. Since they are so wide, they can easily accommodate larger vehicles with broad tires. This is as long as they don’t exceed a gross vehicle weight of 6,500 pounds.

Lots of added traction…

As you drive up these ramps, you will notice the extruded holes that are provided for adding traction. And along the edges of the ramps, there is a small lip for added safety.

With your vehicle on these ramps, you can quickly get under the car to change your oil or any other maintenance.

Quality design…

These steel ramps stay in place reasonably well when driving up onto them due to their shape. They even grip well on smooth surfaces. However, we still recommend placing a couple of jacks under your vehicle, just as a cautionary measure.

But be aware that the steel edges could easily scrape your floor. If the ramp does slide a bit when you pull up onto them, you could notice some scratches on the floor. Plus, you will also want to be careful when moving these ramps as well.

Best Car Ramps Buying Guide

A car ramp is a pretty simple concept. They are meant to lift your vehicle so you can access the underneath sections of it. However, there are a number of very important things to consider when using them.

Weight

Car Ramps can only hold so much weight. Therefore, the first thing to consider before buying a ramp is our vehicle’s weight and whether or not the ramp can safely hold it.

One ramp might be made of steel and be able to hold 6,000 pounds. You might also find a hard plastic ramp that can support the same amount of weight and often even more.

You may notice that a ramp is labeled as P.A.L.D. Certified. P.A.L.D stands for Portable Automotive Lifting Device. The American Society of Mechanical Engineers sets these standards. If your ramp is P.A.L.D. Certified, you can rest assured that it is manufactured to be safe for use with heavy machinery and vehicles.

Next, you should consider the width, length, and height of the ramp.

Width

Where one ramp might support 7-inch-wide tires, another may support 9-inch-wide tires. While you can drive a wide tire up onto a narrow ramp, we don’t recommend doing this. It will not be safe, even if the ramp can hold the weight of the vehicle.

Length and Height

The ramp’s length and height will also affect what kind of vehicles you can drive up on to them. While a ramp that might provide seven inches of lift throughout 20 inches of space, it will do so rather quickly.

If you have a standard suspension in your car, this shouldn’t be a problem. However, if your vehicle is lowered or has modified bodywork, then you might not be able to drive up the same ramp without scratching and damaging that bodywork.

Thankfully, some ramps are made specifically for cars with lowered suspensions. These have a very slight degree of inclination and may raise your car a smaller distance.

Purpose

Low-profile ramps may not allow enough space for you to get under your car and change the oil, for example. However, they will provide enough height for you to place a floor jack under them and then further raise the vehicle.

You also have ramps that can serve multiple purposes. They might act as a curbside ramp, allowing you to drive up on to unlevel surfaces smoothly. Or they could be made for use specifically on trailers.

Traction

Not all ramps offer the same amount of traction. They also vary regarding how well they can grip to the surface they are placed on.

Frequently, you will find ramps that can even be mounted in place via bolts. While this makes them very stable, you won’t be able to move them after they are bolted in.

Safety

No matter the type of ramp you go with, you need to make sure it is as safe as possible before driving your vehicle up onto it. The last thing you want to happen is for your ramp to buckle or slide out when you are under your car.

Therefore, we recommend placing floor jacks or jack stands behind the ramps to provide an additional level of safety, just in case the unfortunate may occur.
